Our cirkcet World Cup hero wasJohn Mooney, the Irish cricketer.
It is not uncommon for sports stars to arrive at a World Cup looking to get noticed. Some do this with a strange or original hair cut. Some back it up with performances (Lasith Malinga 2007), whilst others are tyring to cover up fading powers (Ronaldo - Korea/Japan 2002)
Mooney however decided to go retro, with a Dennis Lillee-esq tash and sideburns. Was it in homage to a sporting legend? If anyone
knows we would love to hear from you.
Against Bangladesh Mooney was only on as a substitute fielder but he was awesome, and threw himself around. The fact that he was sporting facial hair as a throw back to an era of style on and off the pitch was the icing on the cake.
John Mooney we salute you!

Our Ashes hero was Bill Cooper, the Barmy Army Bugler. He hasn’t been spotted at the world Cup yet.
But, after being denied access the the Gabba and Adelaide during the Ashes he rose like a Pheonix from the flames to lead the Barmy army at the WACA. He was about the only person who did rise to the challenges of that series.
Here he is pictured at Mumbai back in March
